When Fr. Stan Brennan, OFM, took over the parish of Reiger Park, he immediately saw that the reading and information needs of the community were not catered for. The library started in two small classrooms. This became inadequate and Fr. Stan approached Anglo-American Corporation for donations to build a library.
A Cyber cafe is operational in the library with 13 work stations avalible
The new library was officially opened on 22nd June 1968. Miss Moira (Chief Librarian: Boksburg Public Library) helped with the arranging and cataloguing of the library material. The new library had a special room for children’s books. During this time the main users of the library were : the local community, St Anthonys adult education students and students studying with Unisa. In 1982 the new library was opened. This new building comprises of three floors: ground floor is the study centre with core collection of reference works, first floor houses the main library and second floor which serves as a tutorial hall. Since 1997 the library became an affiliated member of the Gauteng Provincial Library and Information Services. This proved to be beneficial to the library and its users. We received books, Video tapes, Audio books, CD-ROMS, Posters, Art prints, musical CDS, etc. on a regular basis. We were also able to buy more display shelves, furniture and two computers. The library is much modernised with state of the art technology, the retrieval system is automated, the library material electronically protected, the Internet is also available.

The St Anthonys Library is a community library that caters for St Anthonys Adult Education students, Skills Training students, Franciscan Matric students, local schools, correspondent colleges and university students and the community information needs. The library supplies reading material to the Outreach Programs (St Francis Care Centre, The House of Mercy & The Day Care Centre). The library also participated in the MEC Library Award 2000. A certificate of recognition for being a finalist in the award was received. This library can be used as a model to illustrate how a school library can also serve as a community library. The yearly membership is free to St. Anthonys students and to the surrounding community. All members are issued with one library card and they are expected to bring their cards every time they visit the library. The library is open from 9h00 to 18h00.
